Computer frozen - no response from mouse or keyboard

  • Try pressing the CAPS LOCK key on the keyboard. The CAPS Lock indicator LED on your keyboard should turn on and off.  If this indicator does not change, your computer may be locked up.
  • Try pressing the Ctrl+Alt+Del keys at the same time.  This action should bring up a blue Windows options screen.  If you do not see the blue screen, you will have to reboot your computer.
  • Reboot your machine to resolve this issue - but understand that this has the potential to break Windows files.  Consider calling us before taking this step.

If just the mouse has stopped functioning

  • If the keyboard is working, you can shutdown Windows properly by pressing the WINDOWS key and then using the arrow keys to move to the shutdown option on the Start Menu.
  • For a Wireless mouse, make sure the mouse has power by checking for some indication of power (usually a light)
    • Check the power switch on the mouse.  It is often located on the bottom side.
    • If the mouse does not appear to be on, replace the batteries.
    • Make sure the wireless receiver is within range and is not blocked by too many objects.
    • Disconnect the wireless USB adapter and try plugging it into a different port.

If just the keyboard has stopped functioning

  • Verify that your keyboard is plugged in securely.  Disconnect the keyboard from the computer and then reconnect it into the same port. If you have a USB keyboard, you may want to try a different USB port.  If you are using a USB keyboard and the keyboard is connected to a USB hub, try connecting the keyboard directly into the back of the computer.
