Reboot or Restart
Close any program that you may have open before starting this process. and if you are using classic start you can skip to step 6
- The proper way to reboot or restart a Windows computer is to navigate to the START MENU in the bottom left-hand corner of your screen.
- left-click the power icon shown below that is located in the bottom left-hand corner.
- When you click on the power button a menu should appear listing the restart and shutdown tasks. to select the task you want left click on it one time.
- A box will aper in the middle of the screen. in the drop-down make sure the power task you are trying to complete is selected.
- if you arent using classic start you can stop here
- When you left-click on the Windows icon, the start menu should pop up. On the bottom right-hand corner of the menu there will be a box labeled either “Restart” or “Shutdown.”
- If the Task you want to complete is not shown inside the button, then left-click on the arrow attached to the button. This will bring down a menu that will allow you to perform any of the shutdown or restart tasks.
- A box will aper in the middle of the screen. in the drop-down make sure the power task you are trying to complete is selected.
Use Caution:
Do not hold down the power button on the computer case. This can cause driver issues and data corruption
Do not leave unsaved work open when attempting a shutdown or restart. This can cause data loss of any unsaved documents.
Good Practice:
Restarting your computer on a regular basis (weekly) is a good habit to get into. The restart will clear out Window caches and complete Windows Updates that require a restart.
